CAS-TWAS CEEID and Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences Hold Virtual Meeting to Explore Joint Veterinary Vaccine Research
The Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) and the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan convened a virtual meeting on July 1, 2026,to discuss potential collaboration on veterinary vaccine development and diagnostic products. The online session brought together leading scientists from both institutions to exchange research progress and identify areas of mutual interest.
The meeting was chaired by Academician George F. Gao, Director of the CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Emerging Infectious Disease (CEEID), the Uzbekistan delegation was led by Prof. Shahlo Turdikulova, Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Director of the Center for Advanced Technologies (CAT).
During the two-hour session, researchers from both sides presented their ongoing work on vaccines against several animal diseases of significant economic and public health importance. Dr. Han Wang Peking University provided an update on Lumpy Skin Disease Virus (LSDV) vaccine development; Dr. Kefang Liu shared progress on canine coronavirus (CCoV) vaccine research; Prof. Yuhai Bi briefly reported on H9,H5 avian influenza vaccine development and diagnostics for emerging foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) strains; and Dr. Muzaffar Muminov presented on VZV and RABV vaccine projects.
The discussion, coordinated and facilitated by Dr. Likui Wang, Secretary-General of CEEID, focused on aligning research priorities, exploring joint research and development opportunities, and establishing a framework for future scientific cooperation between the two countries. Both sides expressed strong interest in continuing dialogue and working toward concrete collaborative projects in veterinary vaccines and diagnostic technologies.
The meeting reflects the growing scientific partnership between China and Uzbekistan in the field of biomedical and veterinary research, and underscores a shared commitment to addressing emerging infectious diseases through international collaboration.
