CNVAC Engages in the 3rd ICAVT Workshop to Advance Global Vaccinology Training
The Secretary General of the Chinese Vaccinology Course (CNVAC), Medical School, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, who also serves as the Secretary General of the CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Emerging Infectious Disease (CEEID), attended the 3rd Workshop of the International Collaboration on Advanced Vaccinology Training (ICAVT). The meeting was held on April 26–28, 2026, at the Les Pensières Center for Global Health in Veyrier-du-Lac, Annecy, France.
CNVAC is China’s only member among the 44 ICAVT vaccinology courses worldwide. It is also China’s first full-chain vaccinology training course, covering the entire spectrum from R&D to regulation and immunization practice. Dr. Likui Wang, Secretary General of CNVAC, represented the course at this international collaboration workshop and actively participated in academic discussions alongside 33 representatives from vaccinology programs around the world.
The workshop brought together 33 representatives from 44 advanced vaccinology training courses worldwide. Organized by ADVAC with funding from the Gates Foundation, the meeting aimed to advance the ICAVT network by helping member courses address critical challenges, facilitating joint activities, and strengthening information exchange.
During the three-day event, participants reviewed progress and obstacles since the last in-person meeting in 2022, reinvigorated course-to-course networking, and discussed strategies to enhance collaboration and resource sharing. Key topics included the evaluation of training impact, innovative approaches to capacity building, and the integration of artificial intelligence into vaccinology education.
As an active member of ICAVT, the Chinese Vaccinology Course, represented by the CNVAC Secretary General, shared recent capacity-building achievements in China and highlighted the tangible benefits of global collaboration. CNVAC reaffirmed its strong commitment to bilateral and multilateral partnerships with other member courses, with a particular focus on strengthening vaccinology training in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) through the CAS-TWAS platform.
The CEEID delegation also participated in strategic discussions on emerging priorities for vaccinology training, aligning with the historic Pandemic Agreement adopted by the World Health Assembly to build a more equitable and safer global response to future pandemics. In this context, the delegation highlighted the critical importance of equitable access to training resources, sustainable mentorship frameworks, and South-South cooperation in strengthening resilient immunization workforces.
The workshop reaffirmed the importance of a collaborative global vaccinology training ecosystem to strengthen immunization capacity and public health preparedness worldwide. CNVAC remains dedicated to leveraging its network and expertise to support these global efforts, especially in regions most vulnerable to emerging infectious diseases.
