Professor Nikolai Petrovsky Joins CAS-TWAS CEEID as Guest Researcher to Advance Vaccine Research
March 17, 2026 — The CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Emerging Infectious Diseases (CEEID) is pleased to announce that Professor Nikolai Petrovsky, a distinguished Australian researcher in vaccinology and immunology, has officially joined the Centre as a Guest Researcher.
Professor Petrovsky's integration into the CEEID research team marks a significant step forward in international collaboration aimed at tackling some of the world's most pressing infectious disease challenges. His expertise will contribute to the development of key technologies for influenza and tuberculosis vaccines, with a focus on:
- Intelligent, high-throughput, and standardized screening and validation of antigens and vaccine formulations
- Systematic and rapid approaches to vaccine design
- In vitro alternatives to in vivo testing for vaccine evaluation
- Prototype vaccine stockpiling strategies for pandemic preparedness and emergency response
Professor Petrovsky engaged in in-depth discussions with Professor George F. Gao, Director of CEEID, on collaborative research directions and the future of vaccine innovation. Professor Gao emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships with Australian research institutions, particularly in the areas of novel adjuvants and immune-enhancing strategies. He highlighted the need to accelerate the development of a vaccine delivery and efficacy-enhancing AI platform, integrating innovative design concepts and structural engineering to enable rapid and effective protection against major infectious disease threats.
These discussions were also joined by several key CEEID faculty members, including Professor Haitao Hu, Professor Yuping Du, and Professor Han Wang. Together, the research team explored potential synergies across their respective areas of expertise, and identified opportunities for collaborative projects that leverage Professor Petrovsky's pioneering work in vaccine adjuvants alongside CEEID's strengths in structural biology, immunology, and AI-driven vaccine design. The multidisciplinary dialogue laid a strong foundation for future joint research endeavors.
The successful coordination of Professor Petrovsky's visit and the broader talent recruitment initiative was by Dr. Likui Wang, Secretary-General of CEEID. Dr. Wang played a key role in facilitating the academic exchange and supporting the integration of international expertise into the Centre's research programs.
Professor Petrovsky's affiliation with CEEID is expected to foster long-term collaboration between Chinese and Australian research communities, driving forward the shared goal of developing safe, accessible, and next-generation vaccines for global health security.
The CAS-TWAS Centre of Excellence for Emerging Infectious Diseases remains committed to promoting cutting-edge research and international cooperation in the fight against infectious diseases.
