The delegation of the Institute of Microbiology (IMCAS) visited Uzbekistan from April 1 to 5, 2024 at the invitation of Dr. Ibrokhim Y. Abdulrahmanov, Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.

Academician George Fu Gao, the Director of CAS-TWAS Center of Excellence for Emerging Infectious Diseases (CEEID), Dr. SHI Yi, the Executive Director of CEEID, Dr. CAO Jinghua, the Executive Director of the Secretariat of Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), and the delegation attended the Uzbekistan Biotechnology Symposium and visited the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and the International Agricultural University of Uzbekistan, Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan and the Central Asian Center for Drug Research and Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

During the visit, two sides reviewed China-Uzbekistan cooperation and the “Belt and Road” International Science and Technology Global Governance Study. Both sides expressed that they will continue to cooperate in health and biotechnology in the future and help the Uzbekistan side establish a regional vaccine research & development center and a biotechnology center, to promote further the cooperation of the whole vaccine industry chain and drug research and development. Professor George Fu Gao made a keynote speech entitled “Biomedical Research - Past and Future” in the Biotechnology Symposium.

This visit promoted the exchanges and cooperation in the field of life and health between the Institute of Microbiology and Uzbekistan, and enhanced the friendly relations between the two important partners.
