China-Russia Forum on Infectious Disease Prevention and Control
The China-Russia Forum on Infectious Disease Prevention and Control was successfully held on November 3, 2021. The forum was hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), co-organized by the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS), I.I. Mechnikov Research Institute for Vaccines and Sera, Chinese Society of Biotechnology, and Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO). Prof. CAO Jinghua, Executive Director of ANSO Secretariat attended the forum.
In the opening ceremony, Prof. ZHANG Yaping, Vice President of CAS, Andrey I. Denisov, Ambassador of the Russian Embassy in China, Mr. CHEN Linhao, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), China, Prof. Yuri V. Raspertov, Acting Director of the International Cooperation Department of Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russian Federation, delivered video speeches respectively. As an important event of the China-Russia Sci-Tech Innovation Year, this forum provided a valuable opportunity for international scientists to exchange ideas and insights. They hope that sciencetists and experts from both countries could conduct constructive discussions and promote further cooperation.
After that, 5 renowned scientists from China and Russia delivered their keynote talks. Prof. GAO Fu, Director-General of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, delivered a keynote talk introducing China's experiences in virus detection, disease prevention and control, and vaccine development. He emphasized the important role of community-level response to control the transmission of virus in China. He also reviewed the long-term research cooperation and exchanges between China and Russia on pathogenic microbiology, which should be further deepened in the face of the global pandemic. Prof. WANG Fusheng, Director of National Clinical Research Center of Infectious Diseases of China, introduced the immune profile of patients with coronavirus based on clinical and molecular biology techniques. Prof. Oksana A. Svitich, Director of I.I. Mechnikov Research Institute for Vaccines and Sera of RAS, found out that activating the innate immune system can resist a variety of pathogens, thus enhancing mucosal immunity and helping to reduce coronavirus infections. Prof. Yang Yonghong, from Capital Medical University and Member of RAS, reviewed the 31-year history of China-Russia microbiology cooperation in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases and vaccine development, pathogens and antibiotic resistance.
